I had big thoughts to match the big wind. I wondered if we find the people we need when we need them. I wondered if we attract our future by some sort of invisible force, or if we are drawn to it by a similar force. I felt I was turning a corner and that change was afoot.
In the little town of Blackbird Tree live two orphan girls: one Naomi Deane, brimming with curiosity, and her best friend, Lizzie Scatterding, who could talk the ears off a cornfield. Naomi has a knack for being around when trouble happens. For she knows all the peculiar people in town—like Crazy Cora and Witch Wiggins and Mr. Farley. But then, one day, a boy drops out of a tree. The strangely charming Finn boy. Then the Dingle Dangle man appears, asking all kinds of questions. Curious surprises are revealed—three locked trunks, a pair of rooks, a crooked bridge, and that boy. Soon Naomi and Lizzie find themselves zooming toward a future neither could ever have imagined. Meanwhile, on a grand estate across the ocean, an old lady whose heart has been deceived concocts a plan. . . .

  11. My "great unexpected" was when my oldest daughter was born. They laid her on my chest and I was so surprised to see she had "red" hair. My husband has me on video saying over and over, "I can't believe she has red hair." :) It was a joyous unexpected though. :) Thanks for you giveaway...love getting books in the mail.

  20. So, I had this friend in high school. Well, we weren't really friends--more like acquaintances. We'd chit chat in class, but that was it. Then one day she was gone, and no one knew why. A few days later another one of my friends told me she'd moved back north to be closer to her family. This friend told us she'd passed on our addresses, and we should expect something from the friend that moved away soon.

This is where the friendship really started-- through snail mail. We'd write to each other all the time and talk about what was going on in life. At the end of the letter, we'd include ten questions for each other. We did this all the way through college. Even when she was studying abroad in Spain.

Then one letter came and my friend invited me to visit her in Spain. And, I thought...why not? I hadn't seen her in about four or five years. I had the money saved up. So I bought a ticket, and I went! I stayed for a week, and I had a blast. We reconnected. In another freaking country! I never expected for something like that ever to happen.

  23. I never expected to become a mom at age 17. But my son just graduated from high school #7 out of a class of 600 students. I said goodbye to him 2 weeks ago at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona and while I have missed him every second since we parted, I know he's meant to move on to greater things.

I had been warned that being a teen mom was not an easy road, but with the help of family, and a lot of determination, my son and I are proof that every story CAN have a happy ending. And he has certainly set the bar high for his 3 younger siblings!
