So last night I made kind of a big announcement and I have been overwhelmed at the amount of love and support I have received. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a strong, supportive reading community.
But anyway, to the books...
Last week I finished:
Bomb: The Race to Build - and Steal - the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin
FANTASTIC! I will definitely be writing a longer review of this one soon but wow! Steve Sheinkin, keep writing nonfiction because kids need these kinds of texts.
Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson, illustrated by E.B. Lewis
I will definitely be pairing this text with Wonder by RJ Palacio. Lots to discuss here. Especially the less-than-neat ending.
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain
So I like totally understand myself better after reading this book. And while I can be an abrasive loud mouth on occasion, that's really only when I feel strongly about something. Otherwise, I'm a total introvert. And learning about the way introverts' minds work is definitely going to help me better explain myself when my husband finds it difficult to understand where I'm coming from when I find myself needing solitude.
Currently reading:
The Pull of Gravity by Gae Polisner
I know there are some Nerdy Book Club friends right now who are wondering what the heck took me so long to pick up this book and all I have to say is, I defer to the giant TBR mountain where sometimes gems unfortunately get pushed to the bottom of the pile.
Currently listening:
The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine
Again, this is another one that took me too long to get to.
Last week I reviewed:
Tyler Florence Fresh

Bomb is not something I would normally read but I may end up falling for all the rave and love it's been getting!
ReplyDeleteEach Kindness is high on my TBR list. I started Bomb, but I guess I wasn't in the mood for it so I brought it back to the library. I'll have to get it another time, I've heard such great things. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteYou read some great ones this week. Enjoy The Pull of Gravity! I loved that one.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely not Quiet, but I loved reading about the ways introverts work to make the world better. Ignored, I think. Sadly.
ReplyDeleteI really really want to read Quiet. I keep hearing such wonderful things about it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week of reading :)
How's the audio for The Lions of Little Rock. It's such a favorite of mine . . . I hope the audio does it justice. I agree on your glowing review of Bomb and I'm only half-way through it. I think tons of adults would enjoy it, too! Lots of virtual hugs your way with your big decisions--good luck.
ReplyDeleteThe Pull of Gravity looks like a nice read. I love the font on the cover.
ReplyDeleteTake a look at what I'm reading this week.
Oh I can imagine that Lions of Little Rock would be amazing on audio! It is our next student book club book and I can't wait to hear student reactions to this title. I think this is a real gem of a book. Each Kindness is fantastic. Reminds me so much of A Hundred Dresses.
ReplyDeleteHi there Beth, I read about your 'life-changing post' too in addition to this one. I wish you luck on your new journey - it's a turning of the seasons for you, and do enjoy the exhilaration of being free and filled with so many possibilities. :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely have to find BOMB - it is receiving a lot of love recently. I've read and reviewed Each Kindness and found it to be a fascinating read with the ripples of kindness everywhere. It's a perfect match as well for Eleanor Estes' 100 Dresses, as Carrie pointed out. :) Have a great reading week ahead of you, Beth! :)
I've been holding off on Bomb but it seems like it deserves all the accolades it has gotten so I better read it. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have some great books going right now! I love Lions of Little Rock and, um, The Pull of Gravity!? Awesome. It has a cute new cover for the paperback release that's really fun. May need to buy the paperback even though I own the hardcover.
At the beginning of the year, everyone in my department took the Meyers-Briggs personality indicator test and I'm definitely an extrovert. Quiet is a book that was recommended that I would like to read...it's just stuck at the bottom of the pile right now! :)
LOOVED Each Kindness - fabulous conversations took place in my classroom with this book. Pull of Gravity = also excellent!
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of the audio for Lions of Little Rock. This book has been on my night stand now for awhile... but if the audio is good I'll "read" it that way. :)
