It's Monday! What are you reading? 6-16-14

Originally hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It's Monday! What are You Reading?

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

Last week I reviewed:

Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan
The Cosmobiography of Sun Ra by Chris Raschka

I finished reading:

Nerd Camp 2.0 by Elissa Brent Weissman
This one didn't work for me. I'm glad I read it because I have in mind the type of reader this book would be good for, but it just wasn't my kind of book. Plus, I wasn't a fan of how abruptly everything ended and was tied up in a neat little bow. There was resolution but there wasn't really any denouement, as everything was resolved and it just ended. I was kind of expecting another chapter or two and all of a sudden I was at the last page.

Currently Reading:

Chasing Before by Lenore Appelhans
I like how the prologue immediately gets you up to speed from what happened in The Memory of After.

Still reading with my ears:

Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
The Summer of Letting Go by Gae Polisner

  1. Still need to read the Raschka & Tan books-intriguing to imagine both after so many good reviews. I'd love to read more A.S. King books, too. Will look for your review of this one. Thanks, Beth.

  2. I loved The Summer of Letting Go, but I still have read Ask the Passengers. It's been on my list for a long time!

  3. I am hoping to find Nerdy Camp 2.0 at the library and read it very quickly. I agree that this is a series I feel I know how to book talk and what kind of reader to recommend it to. I am feeling my resolve to leave the credit card in the wallet weaken because I really want to read Summer of Letting Go and I'm sure my library won't get it. After finishing and loving Ask the Passengers, my husband decided on We Were Liars for his next read. I haven't read that one yet either!

  4. So many people have been telling me how good Summer of Not Letting Go is. I'll have to get to it soon! I hope you've been having a great start to your break!

  5. Interesting about Nerd Camp 2.0. I had several kids who enjoyed the first one (and I did too). I love Ask the Passengers!

  6. I love all things A.S King. I cannot wait until her new book comes out, in October, I think. The Summer of Letting Go audio keeps getting set aside for other books on cd with waiting lists at the library. So, instead of listening to that I have listened to 10% Happier and The Storied Life of A.J Fikry. Both were great. And sadly, Summer will get passed over yet again for The Boys in the Boat. I may just end up reading it with my eyes! Have a great week! ~Megan

  7. Both of your audio books must "sound" wonderful. I enjoyed Ask the Passengers a lot. Have you read other A.S. King titles?

  8. I am meaning to get my hands on Rules of Summer soon, as I plan to give it as a going away gift to my daughter's friends who are leaving Singapore - the land where it is eternally summer. :) Iphigene enjoyed and reviewed Ask the Passnegers. :)
