It's Monday! What are you reading? (Return from hiatus edition) 12-14-15
It's Monday! What are you reading? Is a wonderful community of readers, teachers, and librarians. Hosted by Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers, participants share their reading adventures from the past week along with their reading plans for the week ahead.
My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.
Hey everybody! I'M BACK!!!! It feels good to be back.
I had to take a short hiatus as I was finishing my last semester of grad school because my final project was making me a tad monomaniacal. I needed to take a blogging break, but fear not! I have returned. :)
Unfortunately, I haven't done a whole lot of reading the past few weeks because I just haven't been able to focus on anything other than grad school. But I will share some of the things I've read and enjoyed during my blogging break.
My one, lone review that I wrote during my break from regular blogging was:
Stand Off by Andrew Smith
I recently read a couple fun holiday books:
Over the River and Through the Wood: A Holiday Adventure by Linda Ashman, illustrated by Kimberly Smith
The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas by Ellis Paul, illustrated by Scott Brundage
Other picture books I read and loved:
Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick, illustrated by Sophie Blackall
The Little Yellow Leaf by Carin Berger
Book by David Miles, illustrated by Natalie Hoopes
I Used to Be Afraid by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
I also read and loved:
Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
I need to write a full review of this book soon. It is life-changing and soul-stirring. It came at the perfect time for me as I was finishing my master's degree. And I don't usually read adult books, but I got a taste of this book over the summer when I listened to Gilbert's Magic Lessons podcast and I knew I had to read the book as soon as it came out.
Currently reading:
The Key to Extraordinary by Natalie Lloyd
The Marvels by Brian Selznik
Currently reading with my ears:
Dumplin' by Julie Murphy
I've seen others love Big Magic, and it's on my list! Also need to read The Marvels. Congrats on finishing your big project and returning!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read Stand Off. Winger was a favourite title for me and I got a copy signed for my son and met Andrew Smith. I look forward to this title. Nice to have you back!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read Natalie Lloyd's new novel.
ReplyDeleteI missed you! I am currently reading Dumplin' and really enjoying it. Need to get back to it and finish this week. I've bought Big Magic but haven't started it yet--I'm thinking over the break. I teach a course now in Creativity and know this book is one I should read and use it the class. I enjoyed Gilbert's podcast quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteNice assortment of books. I haven't had a chance to read any of them yet myself. Here's my week. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI just finished Stand-Off and was definitely pleased with Andrew's follow up with Ryan Dean. And I completely agree, Ryan Dean is also my hands-down favorite ya character. Ever.
ReplyDeleteI am really interested to hear what you think about The Key to Extraordinary. I am having some anxiety about starting a second book by Natalie Lloyd because I loved her first so much. I get nervous the author won't live up to the amazingness of his/her first book. So I will sit on my behind and wait for your review until I dive in. ;)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved The Marvels which I read a few weeks back. Very envious that you're already starting with The Key To Extraordinary as I really enjoyed Snicker of Magic. Welcome back!
