It's Monday! What are you reading? 4-3-17

It's Monday! What are you reading? Is a wonderful community of readers, teachers, and librarians. Hosted by Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers, participants share their reading adventures from the past week along with their reading plans for the week ahead.

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

Last week I reviewed:

The Bombs That Brought Us Together by Brian Conaghan

Last week I read:

I Am Pan! by Mordicai Gerstein
I have always had an aversion to Greek mythology due to having to learn about it via really boring worksheets in 6th grade -- and then later in college having to take multiple choice tests in a children's lit class that only policed whether you read and didn't assess your understanding.

But this picture book/graphic novel hybrid is entertaining, funny, and fun to read. This book and others like it might help cure my mythology aversion.

I also read:

Giant Squid by Candace Fleming, illustrated by Eric Rohmann
Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse

I'm currently reading:

A Hundred Hours of Night by Anna Woltz

Currently reading with my ears:

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

  1. How's The Hate U Give on audio? I checked it out from the library in print but was thinking I'm more likely to read it on audio.

    1. I really like it on audio. Bahni Turpin is the narrator and she is one of my all-time favorites.

    2. That's what I was going to ask!
I don't know Bahni Turpin--I'll have to listen and hear for myself!

      Happy reading this week :)

  2. I Am Pan looks pretty adorable - I completely agree with you on having mythology ruined for me by school assignments and tests! >.<

    1. I had such a great high school English teacher: for our Greek unit (which must have included some plays as well as mythology) we got to act out the stories of our choice. I'll never forget Clytamnestra getting murdered in the bathtub! (We turned a table upside-down for the bathtub.)

  3. Girl in the Blue Coat and A Hundred Hours of Night both look great. I want to read The Hate U Give, too. I'm looking forward to a break from school, so I can take the time to read these properly. Even with Spring Break still over a week away, the end of the year seems too hectic to give heavier books the attention they deserve.
