My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.
Last week I read and loved:
Your Name is a Song by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow
A beautiful book that is a reminder to everyone, teachers especially, that names are sacred and we must respect them enough to learn how to pronounce them. A Journey Toward Hope by Victor Hinojosa and Coert Vorhees, illustrated by Susan Guevara A beautiful, heart-wrenching story about a group of children making the dangerous journey from Guatemala and El Salvador to seek asylum in the United States. Currently Reading: Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson My Life in the Fish Tank by Barbara Dee Currently reading with my ears: Invisible Ghosts by Robin Schneider |
I'm waiting for those first two picture books from my library - know they will be good! Invisible Ghosts is a new one to me - on my list! Best wishes for a good week, Beth!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Your Name is a Song to fifth graders this week. I'm curious to hear what students think about it.
ReplyDeleteA Journey Toward Hope is one I'm hoping my library gets at some point. I was so happy to see many of my teachers read Your Name is a Song. I really enjoyed Fish Tank. Barbara Dee has a way with her middle grade audience!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I'm adding Your Name is a Song to my wish list. Just Mercy was so good, but heartbreaking. And I cannot wait to read Barbara Dee's latest. I hope you're enjoying it, Beth!
ReplyDeleteBoth of these picture books are on my to read list already. I appreciate your post here to remind me to see if any are available in my library system. Invisible Ghosts has now been added to my list.
ReplyDeleteI’m waiting for Your Name is a Song in order to finish I Am Every Good Thing with all my classes. My Life in the Fish tank comes out tomorrow and we will celebrate!
ReplyDeleteI like Just Mercy so much that seeing a book next to it makes me want to read that new book, so I'm going to look into Pointless. Have a good reading week!
