Last week I read and enjoyed:
Dr. Fauci: How a Boy from Brooklyn Became America's Doctor by Kate Messner, illustrated by Alexandra Bye
Excellent biography and the backmatter at the end is particularly great. It definitely helped that Kate Messner was able to interview Dr. Fauci, which provided necessary background and context for this book.
Making a Baby by Rachel Greener, illustrated by Clare Owen
An excellent and inclusive resource for parents when the inevitable “where do babies come from?” question arises.
Small Room Big Dreams: The Journey of Julian and Joaquin Castro by Monica Brown, illustrated by Mirelle Ortega
Excellent picture book biography on the Castro brothers. Highly recommend.

I've added Making A Baby: An Inclusive Guide to How Every Family Begins to my list. It reminded me of doing research projects with grade two students. A small group were interested in how babies were made. Their class room teacher freaked out, but I encouraged them to go on. What they wanted to know was how the baby developed after conception. Their reports were adorable. I wish I had kept digital copies of them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set of books! I am so glad that my library is finally offering Dr. Fauci through Libby—I will borrow a copy and read it soon! Making a Baby sounds like a super-helpful read for curious kids, and Small Room, Big Dreams sounds fascinating as well! Thanks so much for the great post!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were on BookTok! I wish I loved videos, but I just do most of my time on social media while around others and if I started watching videos, it would definitely eat into my reading time.... BUt also not being on TikTok is giving me FOMO :-D
