It's Monday! What are you reading? 11-22-21

It's Monday! What are you reading? Is a wonderful community of readers, teachers, and librarians. Hosted by Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers, participants share their reading adventures from the past week along with their reading plans for the week ahead.

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

I'm still having tons of fun making book-related content over on TikTok. Here is my favorite one from the past few weeks:

Last week I reviewed:

Picture books I enjoyed last week:
The Creature of Habit by Jennifer E. Smith, illustrated by Leo Espinosa
A book that challenges the concept of "well that's just how we've always done things here" and examines the joy and possibility of new perspectives.

Words to Make a Friend: A Story in Japanese and English by Donna Jo Napoli, illustrated by Naoko Stoop
A beautiful story that shows friendship can transcend language.

  1. Ha Ha! We have similar problems at the bookstore! Wishing I had time to read the Bourdain. I still miss his shows! The other books are new, will note them. Happy Thanksgiving, Beth!

  2. I love your TikTok, Beth! I appreciate you sharing those on these posts, since I'm not actually on TikTok, so I would miss them otherwise. The Creature of Habit sounds like such a sweet story—I've been trying over the last year or so to push myself a little out of my own habit/routine-based comfort zone, so I imagine I'd enjoy that book! Words to Make a Friend sounds lovely as well, and The Other Talk sounds like such a valuable read. Thanks so much for the great post, Beth!

  4. I've never been a huge Anthony Bourdain fan, but my partner is and has read his books. I'm now wondering if In the Weeds: Around the World and Behind the Scenes with Anthony Bourdain might be a good Christmas gift for him.
I'll be looking forward to reading what you think about The Other Talk: Reckoning with Our White Privilege, but have already added it to my list.
I thought that The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music might be a good gift for my son who was a hard core Nirvan fan back in the day. You certainly convinced me to listen to it!
